Success is measured differently for every person. Some view success as having the most money, holding the most power or even being the happiest person in the room.

No matter how you view or measure success, your goals are typically reached in similar ways. Now, guru's are always telling you to add more to your life. Add more cardio, add more money, add more time. I will give you some inspiration on giving a few things up to lead to your success.

    No More Excuses

You are responsible for things that happen in your life. If you make the excuse of an accident, someone's mistake or even medical problems in your life; how you react to it is ultimately your decision and your responsibility.

    Give Up Perfection

How many times have you stopped yourself from being successful or reaching a goal because it wasn't perfect? We have been taught over and over again that perfection isn't real. And it isn't. But that shouldn't scare you into thinking that your goal can't be reached. You will miss so many opportunities through the fear of failure.

    Surrender Control

I'm not saying lose control, go wild and ruin your life. I'm saying give up control on things that are beyond your reach and hone in on those that you can. Like I mentioned before, your reaction to any situation is your choice and responsibility. It is something you can control.

    Change Your Lifestyle

Maybe you don't need to add cardio to your routine six times a week (yes it's ideal but we're not Olympians) but try drinking one less day a week or skipping the fast food meal for lunch. Small things like change in diet and exercise will dramatically change your mindset. A healthy life reflects on healthy choices in other aspects.

    Let Go of Toxic Relationships

This one may be the hardest for most people. We find comfort and solace in people we know. They hold our secrets and best memories. If someone is holding you back from your success or dragging you down with their negativity, let them go. Spend time with people who are uplifting, realistic and have the same mindset as you. If you spend time with a person who has a higher drive and ambitious goals, you will notice yourself wanting to be that way. Make it happen.

Stop Trying to Liked by Everyone

No matter how hard you try, someone in the room will not like you. They will not like your mindset, drive, ideas or opinions. The ONLY way to be liked by everyone is by changing yourself to meet everyone's expectations. By doing so, you lose your authenticity.

    Lose Social Media

Okay, I sound crazy right?? Especially coming from someone who's blogging success comes from social media outreach. What I mean is give up the idea that you need to be what social media says is acceptable, cool or "goals". Give up binging social media accounts that don't actively play a role in your success. For guys, Dan Bilzerian looks super cool and successful with his girls, cars, guns and money and for girls, Kylie Jenner may have everything she needs in life from plastic surgery, cars and awesome vacations. Take the two, three, four hours you spend "Instagram stalking" these people and pursue your own goals and success.

    Hi again,

I had so many people reach out to me after I stopped posting to Fervent Youth. It was an awesome feeling of "Yes! My friends are actually reading this crap!" and also "Holy cow, I totally dropped the ball." So here I am, being a keyboard warrior and hoping my friends are still going to be interested in what I have to say!

Since I have been gone, I have made so many drastic life changes. I have a totally awesome boyfriend, am moving to a new city (Fort Worth here I come??) and am in the process of getting a new job! Super exciting and super stressful all at the same time. It's crazy.

The biggest reason I took a break on blogging is the same reason as anyone else. LIFE. I was working three jobs, trying to have a life outside of work and stressing about what is going to happen next. What no one tells you in their "Best of Blogging Secrets" is that this is a full-time job. From actually having something creative, innovative and new to write about, to social media outreach to email marketing. I mean if you're not talking about your blog 24/7, it's as good as dead. So I took a break because I couldn't give it 100%.

Now that I have my life kinda, sorta back together again (even though that's a lie in itself), I want to pick back up where I started. I'm hoping the people who were interested in Fervent Youth will welcome it back with open arms and eager reading eyes!

So, here's to making my 2017 New Years resolution a thing again.

    xoxo, Kris

From one getaway to the next, I'm always on the go. Mimosas lakeside in Austin, Texas to brews seaside in San Diego, California. Ultimately, my goal is to live in Southern California and be a local rather than visiting (most expensive mental decision I've made other than going to private university, lol). This past week I stayed in a Golden State of mind; I crashed at my bff's digs and hit the coolest spots in SD with them and now I'm going to share it with y'all!

Obviously the best parts about California are the beaches - currently writing my first draft of this post on Mission Beach waiting for my flight back to Dallas. My favorite spot so far is definitely Swami's Beach. Not only is it a great surfing spot but has an amazing, point-break lookout that is the perfect place for any local (or kook) to meet up and watch the sunset, rally and rendezvous at. My friends and I spent an entire day goofing off, lounging in the sand and enjoying the sunny day after the gloomy rain had passed. I got really lucky that my last two days were sunny and 75 because San Diego got hit with a lot of rain a few days before! Since the weather was a little grey, I didn't get to go on any decent hikes on this trip but Torrey Pines and The Cove in La Jolla are my favorite spots. They are easy, beginner hikes with some amazing views.

I had no idea that breweries were such a huge thing in San Diego. I think I drank enough craft beer and double IPAs to last me a lifetime. I'm pretty hoppy I got to try so many cool breweries while I was in SD (lol). Ballast Point near University of San Diego and Karl Strauss in La Jolla were pretty cool, K. Strauss had awful service but great food. I think my absolute favorite brewery was Stone Taphouse in Oceanside. It stole my heart with the outdoor seating lined with succulent walls, twinkling lights over the patio and natural rock formation tables and fires (plus great beer and walking distance from the pier). I wish, wish, wish I could have grabbed a better photo from Stone but it was too dark for my iPhone to get a decent one. Rip Current, the micro brewery in San Marcos, had some of the best tasting beer but was in a very average location off the highway. This whole little niche of brewing beers was a new world I never explored. The whole concept is pretty cool. You order a flight, which is three to five beers that are 4oz testers, and try each one! This is super fun to do with friends because it's like community oriented since you're trying them together, you get to share beers and your opinion on them.

Speaking of great brews, my top two coffee spots in SD are Better Buzz in Encinitas right off the 101, just a block away from the coast. It's perfect to grab a cuppa and walk down the cute little strip that has vegan shops, boutiques and a low-key vibe. Succulent Cafe in Oceanside is super hip and cute succulent garden that you can drink coffee admire the plants (and buy some too!) The succelents were beautiful after San Diego got hit with a few days of rain, the entire county looked lush and green for that matter. Oh, I take my coffee black - please don't judge.

My end goal, after college and a stable income, is to move to San Diego - or virtually any party of SoCal - I know taxes are crazy and the cost of living is too high; but if you can find full satisfaction in a place you work, eat, sleep, and breath then take a leap of courage and make the move. If you see the opportunity to change your scenery then push yourself to reach the goal of living in a new place. Change is good and should be embraced. Who wants to live in the same place their whole life anyway?

If you can't take off a week from work and don't want to break the bank, Austin, Texas is the perfect place for a weekend getaway. Every angle of Austin is a great backdrop for a photoshoot; from the best brunch spots to Lady Bird Lake you can snap the perfect pic for Instagram. I'm always finding new places to go to and exploring different areas, each better than the one before. This past weekend I spent three days covering all corners of Austin; the sunny, 85 degree days and the cool breezes kept us alive during the day. With phenomenal weather, it made it easy to enjoy Austin since so much of it is outdoorsy.

The gal pals and I started every morning, or afternoon, with boozy brunches at my new favorite spots like cutesy Irene's off of West 6th or my favorite hidden gem, ForthRight, located in downtown Austin amongst all the high-rises right off of Lady Bird Lake (thanks Evan) - this place is amazing because you can turn the corner and go for a stroll by the lake and lay around on the dock that has a great view of the Austin skyline. Mimosas were obviously a must at brunch but always go for the biscuits at Irene's and the fried-chicken Benedict at ForthRight.

Post boozy brunches the drinking continued on to Rainey Street, the perfect hangout spot for a sunny day. Beers, board games, pups and Austinites galore come together to hit this outdoor strip of bars that are in cozy looking houses. Since Austin decided to have some of the best weather the weekend I went (yes, 85 degrees in February - welcome to Texas) we sat outside and sipped on our Tito's sweet teas at Lucile's and played Never Have I Ever and one too many games of Tick Tack Toe. While you're in Austin, never miss out on the chance to day drink and pet and play with every pup that passes by.

The best part of this trip easily had to be the lavish dinner at Vox on South Lamar. It is a tapas style dinner that consisted of shared small-plates and perfectly concocted drinks. My friends and I started with a lovely board of prosciutto and baked bread then ordered five plates that were carefully created and plated; we had bass, octopus, calamari pasta, pork belly with a fried egg, and the steak with a fried egg (absolutely must order). I love small-plate dinner because it creates a sense of community with the friends you go with; it allows you to engage with each other and talk about what you did or didn't like. We finished the night with a nice bottle of champaign and toasted to the future of more weekend getaways.

Monday's suck, I know. The only way to survive that 8:00am class senior year or sit through a client meeting downtown is to chug three cups of coffee before lunch and attempt to ignore BuzzFeed's article about which type of bread your Zodiac sign would be. I've created a list of my top five quotes that always help me me get over the Monday Blues and through my week. I hope these will encourage you to work hard and go through your week more confident than the last. Radiate positivity this week by taking a screen shot or saving these images and posting them to your Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest or Twitter or just share the whole article!
